Green Lodging
Old Commitments, New Trends
Among our many accolades, Post Ranch Inn and its sister property , Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort were named two of the top 'Ten Greenest Accommodations in the World' - ranked #3 and #1 respectively - based on a first-time ecotourism survey by TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel community. We are honored that our efforts are recognized, as ecotourism and 'going green' grow in interest and importance to travelers.
Post Ranch Inn's commitment to the environment and community go back to its inception - long before these vital priorities gained momentum and critical mass. Perhaps because earth, sea and nature are so entwined at Big Sur, our respect for the land and people who live here comes with the territory.
A leader in responsible tourism, Post Ranch Inn's goal is to create a distinctive first-class guest experience that melds seamlessly with environmental and social stewardship.
Our efforts include:
- Architecture and materials that are sustainable, natural and/or earth-friendly, including wood, stone, glass, sod roof structures and passive solar heat
- Reduced wattage lighting, native and drought -tolerant plant landscape, and biodegradable cleaning programs
- Identification and protection of rare, threatened and endangered species, including Smith's blue butterfly and the California red-legged frog
- Contributions to our community such as a vault for the Big Sur Historical Society, land for the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade and funds to organizations like the Big Sur Health Center
