Although Highway One remains closed, the spirit of Big Sur is alive and well as other Big Sur businesses including the iconic restaurant Nepenthe, the adjacent Phoenix Shop and the Hawthorne Gallery are all open as well. With Post Ranch only accessible via air, we’ve taken the experience to greater heights with our new Escape Through The Skies package, featuring a personalized helicopter shuttle experience. Available for stays of two or more nights during the month of June, the inclusive Escape Through The Skies package offers astonishing value and includes:

Dining


Sierra Mar is open daily to guests for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Each morning guests enjoy a full gourmet breakfast buffet. A light Lunch service is available each afternoon with a three-course menu. Each evening Chef Elizabeth Murray offers guests an exquisite four-course menu that changes daily. Spa Services

Guests are invited to enjoy a full selection of Massages, Facials, Specialized Therapies and Shaman Sessions. Spa services are available in guest rooms seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. In addition, on Saturdays all services can be experienced in the Spa from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Luggage Policy

Weight and Dimensions of Allowable Luggage on Helicopters

Due to limited space on our helicopters, we kindly ask that you please limit the amount of luggage you bring with you. Each guest is permitted one (1) standard airline carry-on article and one (1) personal article. We highly recommend a soft sided-duffel bag.

Personal Article
Maximum size: 17″ L (43 cm) x 13″ W (33 cm) x 6″ H (15 cm)
Maximum weight: 5 lbs (2 kg)


Luggage that exceeds these specifications will be subject to an additional fee of $100 per bag, per flight, as we may have to fly your luggage to Post Ranch on a separate helicopter.

In some instances, even if your luggage meets these requirements, while we will make every effort to accommodate your luggage on your flight, it may be necessary to fly your luggage to Post Ranch separately, free of charge.

Should your visit to Post Ranch be one of a number of stops on your journey and you have luggage in excess of what you need and what we can transport, we will store it securely at Del Monte Aviation during your stay. In addition, we will have duffel bags at Del Monte Aviation available to borrow should you need to rearrange your luggage. Thank you very much for your cooperation and understanding.

Getting to Post Ranch

What are my options to get to Post Ranch Inn from the North (San Francisco, San Jose, Monterey/Carmel, etc.) and from the South (Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, etc.)?
Currently the only way to visit Post Ranch, whether you’re coming from the north or the south, is through the Monterey area. Once in Monterey, helicopter transportation is currently the only way to visit Post Ranch Inn. Helicopter flights are scheduled Sunday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., from Del Monte Aviation in Monterey, for a 15-20 minute flight to/from Post Ranch. Helicopter charter service is operated by Specialized Helicopters, Inc. FAA certificate# ZUGA597L.

Where does the helicopter leave from in Monterey?

Will someone be at the airport to greet me?
Yes, a Post Ranch representative will be there onsite at Del Monte Aviation to assist you with your luggage and parking.

How early do I need to be at the airport?
Please plan to arrive to Del Monte Aviation no later than 45 minutes prior to take off. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to get on another flight that same day should you miss your scheduled flight.

What if I need to change my departure time?
While we will do our best to accommodate you, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to change your flight as our schedules are based upon availability and your desired departure time may already be booked. If you do wish to change your departure time, please let us know as far in advance as possible.

Where do I park?
Guests will be able to park at Del Monte Aviation.

Is there a fee?
There is no additional fee. Parking is included with your reservation.

Is the parking lot secure?
It is a private parking lot that is patrolled regularly.

ABOUT THE FLIGHT

How do I reserve my flight?
Post Ranch Reservations will handle your helicopter reservation. We will provide you with available flight times and take care of all of the details.

How often do flights leave?
Flights will leave roughly every hour between 11 am and 5 pm.

How long is the flight?
The flight to Post Ranch Inn is approximately 15-20 minutes.

Is the route to/from Post Ranch different?
The route you take is dependent on the weather. Flying along the coast is the preferred route for the pilots and also the fastest, quietest and most scenic route. If it’s foggy, you will fly inland over the mountains, which is also very beautiful. Please note, the flights are weather-dependent and the helicopter will not fly in the rain or heavy fog, nor after dark. The safety of our guests is of the utmost importance to us.

Where does the helicopter drop me off in Big Sur?
The helicopter will land on the Post Ranch property in the field near the pond and solar panel array. Arriving guests will be met by a bellman who will assist with the check-in process and luggage.

Is it a private flight or will there be other people on there? If so, how many?
No, it is not a private flight, however the other passengers will also be Post Ranch hotel guests. Our helicopters can comfortably accommodate up to six passengers, plus a pilot. Most flights will accommodate four passengers plus a pilot. On some occasions there may be up to six passengers, plus a pilot.

Is there a limit on luggage?
We kindly request that you try your best to minimize your luggage as there is a limited amount of space on each helicopter. If you have more luggage than space allows, we will ensure that it is delivered safely to Post Ranch. We recommend bringing a day bag along with a second small bag.

What happens if I’m late for the flight?
If you miss your flight, we will do our best to get you on the next scheduled flight. However, if those flights are full, there may be a considerable delay and we cannot guarantee that you will be able to leave Monterey that day.

What if I miss my flight and cannot get to Post Ranch? Will I be charged for missing my hotel reservation?
Should you miss your scheduled flight and are unable to get on another flight to Post Ranch that day, the result will be a forfeiture of your room rate for that night.

What if helicopters can’t leave Monterey or Big Sur due to weather or any other unforeseen circumstances?


Post Ranch will arrange hotel accommodations in the Monterey/Carmel area for the night and based on your schedule, will schedule your helicopter departure to Post Ranch the following day. If helicopters are unable to leave Big Sur, we will arrange for an additional overnight stay at Post Ranch at our expense.

We do have an alternative landing area in Big Sur that is located above the fog, so our hope is that weather will not have a major impact on our schedule.



GENERAL QUESTIONS

Will Post Ranch be fully operational?


Yes. All of our outlets will be open and operating as usual, with a few exceptions.

Sierra Mar will be open and serving breakfast, a light lunch and dinner as part of our inclusive package during the month of June. Please note that Sierra Mar will be open for hotel guests only and is unable to accommodate the general public at this time.

Spa services including Massages, Facials, Specialized Therapies and Shaman Sessions, will be offered daily. At this time, spa services are available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily in guest rooms and in the Spa on Saturdays.

The Post Gallery and Mercantile will both be open to guests.

All complimentary activities, including daily yoga, stargazing, garden tours and guided nature walks will be offered as usual.


How can I get around in Big Sur if I don’t have a car?
Based upon availability, guests are invited to take one of our complimentary Lexus vehicles to explore Big Sur. We have a limited number of Lexus vehicles available so if they are all occupied, it would be our pleasure to shuttle you to and from your destination in Big Sur. However, please note that the majority of parks and hiking trails are currently closed.

What’s open in Big Sur?
While some businesses remain closed, several businesses are open and operating. Those include the iconic restaurant Nepenthe, the adjacent Phoenix Shop, the Hawthorne Gallery and the Tap House. Please note that the majority of parks and hiking trails are currently closed.
